Living under stress negatively affects our health, including our eyes. Many people are unaware that stress, in addition to environmental pollution or prolonged computer work, can also deteriorate vision.

Emotional strain and prolonged tension can affect the quality of vision and lead to a deterioration of visual acuity. This issue requires broader attention and a better understanding of the physiological changes occurring in our bodies.

Stress and anxiety can impair many aspects of your health, including your vision. You may experience vision loss or other vision symptoms, like blurriness, light sensitivity, or loss of visual acuity. Chronic stress may speed up the development of eye diseases like macular degeneration or glaucoma, as reported by "Healthline".

One of these conditions is dry eye disease. Symptoms include visual disturbances, such as weakened acuity. Studies by Canadian scientists from Western University have linked this disease with depressive and anxiety disorders, which may be triggered by stress.

To minimise the negative impact of stress on eyesight, it is advisable to regularly take breaks from computer work to allow the eyes to rest and shift focus from distant to near objects.

Ensuring proper working conditions, such as adequate lighting and humidity, is also important. Humidifiers can help maintain healthy humidity levels and prevent eye irritation.

Prevention and ophthalmic examinations

Regular visits to an ophthalmologist can help detect pathological changes at an early stage. Limiting smoking, which negatively affects the blood vessels in the retina, is also crucial.

People with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, should pay special attention to eye health, as they may be more prone to vision problems.
