Following abdominal surgery, Duchess Kate has been notably absent from the public eye. As days passed without her appearance, speculation and conspiracy theories about her health began to proliferate in the media and online, further escalated by an edited photo on the Instagram account of the Duke and Duchess of Wales.

In an attempt to quell the rumors, Kate took it upon herself to address her health issues directly. In a video released on social media, she revealed her cancer diagnosis and announced the commencement of her chemotherapy treatment.

Controversies around the video

Despite the Duchess's candor, the video sparked controversy, with some internet users questioning its authenticity. Tensions were exacerbated by a disclaimer attached to the video in Getty Images’ database, which read, "This clip with news material was provided by an external organization and may not comply with Getty Images' editorial policy," leading to rampant speculation regarding the video’s legitimacy.

Agency response

In the face of escalating skepticism, Getty Images clarified that labeling the video is a routine procedure for content received from external sources, including Kensington Palace.

BBC Studios also weighed in, confirming their role in capturing the video. "BBC Studios recorded a message from the Duchess of Wales in Windsor this week. We extend our best wishes to Her Royal Highness for a speedy recovery," the statement read.
