Ducati unveils DesertX discovery: The ultimate off‑road touring companion
Ducati enjoys creating additional versions of their motorcycles to cater to every niche. This is the case with the Multistrada V4, already available in six variants. The Italians are applying a similar approach to their more off-road model, the DesertX. The Discovery version is designed to facilitate long journeys across rough terrains.
For years, Ducati's broadly understood adventure segment has been represented by the more tarmac-oriented Multistrada. Therefore, it is no surprise that with the growing popularity of this class of motorcycles, the Italians created the DesertX model. The tall machine immediately indicates it was designed with rough terrains in mind. Of course, tarmac touring is also possible, but the Multistrada is better suited. However, if you plan to leave paved roads, the DesertX should be your choice.
Until now, there have been only two options for the DesertX. The newer one is the Rally variant, which, as the name suggests, was created for off-road fun. Meanwhile, the standard DesertX required adding a significant number of elements—be it panniers or guards to protect the motorcycle during long trips. The Discovery version has been introduced, which already comes with everything necessary on board.
So, what distinguishes the Ducati DesertX Discovery? In addition to the panniers, it has reinforced handguard protectors and extended bodywork tubing. There is a more prominent engine guard that also protects the water pump. The radiator is also protected from damage (e.g. from stones thrown up by the front wheel). In terms of comfort, the motorcycle is equipped as standard with heated grips and a higher windscreen, which more effectively protects against wind – something that can certainly be appreciated on longer routes.
The engine remains unchanged, featuring a two-cylinder Testastretta V-engine with a displacement of 57 in³. Its maximum power is 110 HP, and the torque is 68 ft-lbs at 6500 rpm.
