Although probably few people pay attention to the exact moment they brush their teeth in the morning—whether they do it right after waking up, before or after breakfast—this has a massive impact on enamel. Dr Shaadi Manouchehri shared essential points on social media that can protect enamel from damage.

When to brush your teeth in the morning?

Most people ignore the order of their morning routine. This mistake can cost them a lot.

Dr Shaadi Manouchehri posted a video on her Instagram profile saying that brushing your teeth after breakfast is not recommended. Brushing your teeth before eating is much better.

Why? Brushing your teeth right after breakfast slowly damages the enamel.

Dr Shaadi Manouchehri added that when we wake up in the morning, we have a lot of bacteria in our mouths, which should be brushed away before eating breakfast.

Do not brush your teeth after coffee

The advice to brush teeth before breakfast is not the only one Dr Manouchehri shared. The dentist emphasised that a common mistake is brushing teeth right after drinking coffee, which is more harmful than brushing after breakfast.

In the same video, she highlighted that you should not brush your teeth after drinking coffee, explaining that brushing after consuming anything acidic harms dental health.

She added that you should wait 30-60 minutes after drinking coffee. You do not have to brush your teeth immediately afterwards; rinse them with mouthwash or drink water.

She advises against brushing teeth after drinking coffee because of its acidity. Coffee is one of the main causes of enamel erosion, which leads to tooth discolouration. Teeth can become yellow, and regaining their white colour can be difficult.
