The way we defrost meat greatly affects its quality. Moreover, if done improperly, bacteria can quickly develop, and the meat can lose its flavour. So, how can you do it quickly and safely? First and foremost, you need to follow a few important rules.

This trick saves the day

One of the most effective methods is using cold water. The meat should be placed in a tightly sealed bag and submerged in a bowl of room-temperature water. The defrosting process then takes between 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of the meat. It's important to change the water periodically. This method allows the meat to defrost evenly while maintaining its quality.

You can also try:

  • Submerging the meat in a sealed bag in warm water, with a temperature up to 60 degrees Celsius.
  • Using a microwave or oven with a defrost function. Adjust the power and time according to the size of the meat piece to ensure it defrosts evenly.

Avoid mistakes

Improper defrosting can lead to many problems, including food poisoning. Defrosting meat on the kitchen counter or using hot water are common mistakes that can reduce the nutritional value of the meat and promote bacterial growth.

It's recommended to avoid leaving meat at room temperature for an extended period. A safe solution is to defrost it in the refrigerator, which, although time-consuming, is the safest method. Therefore, it's best to plan meals in advance and not forget to take the meat or other products out of the freezer beforehand.
