Cauliflower nuggets: A delicious meat-free alternative
Nuggets primarily remind us of meat. However, in their vegetarian version, they can be just as tasty. Replace the beef with this vegetable, coat it with breadcrumbs, and bake. The household will be delighted with this dish.
More vegetarian and vegan recipes appear online and on social media. Many of them are based on substituting meat with another ingredient so we can quickly please both meat-eaters and non-meat-eaters. One such example is nuggets. We can easily make them, for instance, from cauliflower.
Cauliflower nuggets recipe
Cauliflower is an easily accessible vegetable. Lately, it has been used for salads and "meat-like" dishes, such as steaks and the nuggets mentioned above. Although it may seem unusual, creating such a dish is simple and inexpensive.
Ingredients for cauliflower nuggets:
- 1 cauliflower
- 3 cups of cornflakes
- 1 cup of wheat flour
- 1 egg
- 1 litre of sparkling water
- 2 teaspoons of chicken seasoning
- Ground black pepper (amount to taste)
- Salt (amount to taste)
- Herbs (optional)
They will be delicious and crispy
Making cauliflower nuggets is as simple as the recipe itself. Wash and clean the cauliflower, then divide it into not-too-large florets. Boil in salted water until al dente. Drain the pieces after 5 minutes and let them cool.
In the meantime, or after cooking the cauliflower, prepare the batter. Combine the flour, egg, chicken seasoning, and sparkling water in a bowl. Set aside for about 15 minutes. Place the cornflakes on a separate plate and crush them (preferably by hand). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Coat the cauliflower florets first in the batter, then in the crushed cornflakes. Place them on the baking sheet. Bake for about 20 minutes, until they turn golden. Serve the crispy nuggets with, for example, garlic sauce.
