Autumn is the time when colds come knocking. The return to schools and preschools, where children easily catch minor and major infections, doesn’t help either. It's better to prevent than to cure, so it's good to take care of your immunity now. When you start to feel a scratchy throat and a tickling nose, as if you just smelled pepper, prepare this mixture.

There are numerous ways to support your immunity. The basics are proper dressing, body hardening, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and daily exercise. There are also home remedies to promote healing and help with a cold. In Ayurvedic medicine, you can find a banana mixture that helps treat coughs. Children are more likely to reach for it than for an unpleasant syrup.

Sweet bananas are not only a delicious addition to porridge or smoothies. They contain many valuable vitamins and minerals that support our immune system. Combining them with the therapeutic properties of honey gives us a natural cough syrup that tastes delicious. This is especially important when the consumers are children – we probably remember the unpleasant syrups from childhood. In this case, however, no one will grimace.

Bananas are rich in potassium, which supports the immune system, and honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Although the remedy itself is safe, due to its high sugar content, it’s best not to overdo it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas,
  • 2 tablespoons honey,
  • 480 ml water.

Preparation:

  1. Thoroughly mash the ripe bananas with a fork or potato masher.
  2. Pour boiling water over the bananas.
  3. Wait until the bananas have cooled, then add the honey and mix. Do not add honey to hot liquids, as it will lose its properties.
  4. Set the syrup aside, covered, for about 30 minutes to allow the ingredients to blend well.

Serve the syrup at least 4 times daily with one tablespoon and store it in the refrigerator. Remember, this does not replace a doctor’s visit and recommended treatment, especially for small children or people with chronic illnesses. It is only a natural support for the body.
