Audi axes a5 coupé and convertible amid focus on SUVs and EVs
After discontinuing the sporty A8 and TT, Audi has decided to reduce its exciting model range further.
SUVs and electrification are priorities for most brands, including premium ones, and less popular segments are becoming casualties of this transformation. A prime example is the classic coupé and convertible, whose numbers are dwindling at an increasing rate.
The Audi A5 Coupé and its convertible version are unofficially set to join the exciting models that will soon disappear from showrooms. The Germans are not particularly vocal about this decision, merely stating that the A5 lineup 2025 will include the A5 Sportback, S5 Sportback, and RS5 Sportback. Two critical versions are missing.
Audi's lineup will lack a cabrio or coupé for the first time in decades, and enthusiasts for such a vehicle will need to turn to competitors like BMW or Mercedes. In the meantime, Audi will focus on SUVs, which are more profitable than models with classic body styles. Another critical goal remains electrification, though it won't be easy.
So far, electric vehicles are not selling as well as anticipated, creating unique challenges for the industry. A few days ago, information emerged that Audi is considering ending production of the Q8 e-tron and closing the factory in Brussels.
