Apple seems to acknowledge its delay in embracing artificial intelligence and is now actively trying to catch up with competitors. Despite a team of engineers developing its own AI technologies, they aren't quite ready for comprehensive integration into the brand's devices. This has led to the decision to partner with a more experienced entity.
Recently, there have been hints that Apple might consider collaborating with Google. However, new information suggests that these discussions didn't yield the anticipated outcomes, prompting Apple to seek a partnership with another AI frontrunner, OpenAI Laboratory.
Apple's collaboration with OpenAI
According to Bloomberg, the agreement with OpenAI is nearing completion. In future iPhone models, users can anticipate new features powered by the well-known chatbot Chat GPT (currently, iPhone users can access the ChatGPT app).
Having spoken with knowledgeable individuals, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple aimed to leverage OpenAI's technology to introduce novel AI capabilities in forthcoming iPhone editions. The negotiations are now close to reaching a formal agreement.
iOS 18 with AI support
The partnership between these technological powerhouses is expected to be officially unveiled at the WWDC conference in June. Then, Apple could unveil iOS 18, bringing new artificial intelligence-driven features to iPhones.
Although the specifics of these new capabilities are still being revealed, based on competitors' offerings, anticipated functions could include photo editing, voice note transcription, summarizing websites, and text generation.
