In a Russian prison, Paweł Kusznir, a pianist known for his anti-war activism, has died. The 39-year-old passed away after a hunger strike he declared in protest against the war in Ukraine.

Kusznir died on 27th July. The authorities of the penal colony in Birobidzhan in the Russian Far East did not report his death. Journalists from the Wot Tak project of the Belsat TV channel uncovered this information.

The oppositionists conducted a dry hunger strike, the most extreme form of hunger strike, while in prison. A dry hunger strike involves refraining from consuming both solid foods and liquids.

Olga Romanova, the head of the Sitting Russia project, an organization defending the rights of political prisoners, confirmed the man's death.
