American Airlines flights grounded by technical glitch
On Tuesday, American Airlines briefly halted all of its flights in the USA due to a technical issue, reports Sky News. Shortly afterwards, the planes were back in the air, but even a brief pause can lead to delays.
Sky News reports that American Airlines grounded all flights in the USA on Tuesday morning due to an unspecified technical issue. Passengers on social media noted that their flights were stuck on the runway at various airports and sent back to the gate.
The AP agency explains that the carrier reported a technical failure affecting its system. "Our team is currently working to rectify this. Your continued patience is appreciated," stated the airline concisely on social media.
ABC News adds that flights resumed after about an hour. However, according to Sky News, disruptions in scheduled take-offs and landings are now possible, as many flights need to make up for the delays. CNN highlights that Christmas Eve is one of the busiest days of the year for air traffic.
American Airlines operates thousands of flights daily to over 350 destinations in more than 60 countries.
