Peruvian police's Grinch leads daring holiday drug bust
Forget about the Grinch who detests Christmas and endeavours to ruin it for everyone. The green creature has now switched professions and is assisting the police in Peru to dismantle drug cartels.
A remarkable video from Peru is spreading across the internet. The footage depicts the Grinch - the grouchy character from the well-known holiday film - apprehending drug dealers. A Peruvian police officer donned the guise of the green creature and spearheaded a raid on a drug cartel's headquarters.
The operation occurred a few days before Christmas, so it’s hardly surprising that the Peruvian Grinch is adorned in a Santa Claus jacket. The video shows the character dashing through the streets of Lima, Peru's capital, with a sledgehammer carried over his shoulder.
Grinch in the ranks of the police in Peru
The Peruvian Grinch wasted no time. He demolished the door with a sledgehammer and charged into the building with a group of officers, believed to be the drug dealers' base of operations. The police apprehended three suspects and confiscated various illegal substances.
In the Peruvian police video, you can observe the Grinch handcuffing one of the detainees. He then takes part in the house search - rifling through furniture and examining a cosmetic bag. Subsequently, he escorts the arrested individuals to a patrol car. Following the operation, he poses with a senior police officer who elaborates on the mission to the camera.
The drug problem in Peru
This is not the first time the Peruvian police have devised unconventional tactics against drug cartels. During Halloween in 2023, officers dressed as characters from horror films - Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Chucky - and then raided the residences of drug dealers.
Peru is the second-largest producer of cocaine globally. A significant portion of the substances from Peru is dispatched to South American countries or exported to Europe, the USA, East Asia, and Mexico.
