AI unveils new details in iconic Bigfoot footage from 1967
Experts have decided to leverage artificial intelligence capabilities to enhance the quality of a well-known 1967 recording that allegedly captured the figure of Bigfoot. This recording, which has sparked numerous controversies and questions over the years, was made in Bluff Creek, California. While some consider it a forgery, the use of modern technology in its analysis provides a fresh perspective on what it depicts.

The original recording aimed to capture Bigfoot, a mysterious creature believed, according to unverified reports, to inhabit the Rocky Mountains along the USA-Canada border. It was filmed on 20 October 1967 by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin. The footage shows a figure moving briskly through the Six Rivers forest, turning towards the camera at one point.
AI enhances the Bigfoot recording
The recording has often been presented as evidence of the existence of this elusive creature. However, the poor quality of the footage has made it difficult to discern any details that might support or disprove this theory. Consequently, specialists decided to reanalyse the footage using artificial intelligence. According to IFL Science, this has produced a clearer image, enabling a more precise assessment of the details.
Bigfoot, also known as the "man of the forest," is reputed to inhabit regions of North America, named for the large footprints it is said to leave behind. However, most accounts of its existence remain unverified. Those attempting to prove its reality have often discovered individuals wearing animal costumes. Similar suspicions emerged regarding the 1967 footage, although its creators, Patterson and Gimlin, insisted they had monitored the creature for some time before managing to film it.
Analyses of hair and footprints attributed to Bigfoot often reveal that they could belong to bears or dogs. The film's version, which is enhanced by artificial intelligence and shared on Twitter by Rowan Cheung, also raises doubts about the legend. The improved image quality makes the "Bigfoot" in the recording resemble a person dressed in a gorilla costume. Commentators have noted that such a costume might be found in Halloween shops, with details like straps or buckles suggesting a human-made origin of the figure. Nevertheless, some remain convinced that the material shows the legendary creature.
Artificial intelligence is a valuable tool for scientists to solve many mysteries and conduct significant research. Its applications span various scientific fields, extending beyond enhancing video quality. For instance, a team from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) has developed an algorithm that automatically deciphers ancient languages without prior knowledge of related languages.
