Her husband found the body of 18-year-old Karen Snider from Cook County. During the attack at home, their two-month-old daughter was lying in a cradle.

The accused worked on the railway along with the victim's husband.

The police suspected him from the beginning - one of the detectives at the murdered woman's funeral noticed he had hand injuries - but at that time, they could not find sufficient evidence to charge him. However, the victim's family and the widowed husband were convinced of his guilt.

The daughter of the murdered woman 57 years ago told ABC news portal that when she learned about the suspect's arrest, "For the first time, I felt like my (deceased) father was beside me. I think they both can finally rest in peace now."
