AfD secures historic win in Thuringia while CDU leads Saxony
The exit poll results from two federal states in Germany, where elections took place, have been announced. In Saxony, the Christian Democrats (CDU) are winning. Meanwhile, the poll indicates a victory for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Thuringia.

According to the first forecast, the AfD, led by Bjoern Hoecke, won the Thuringia state parliament election with 33.1% of the votes.
The Christian Democrats (CDU) came next with 24.3%, followed by the left-wing Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance with 14.5%.
The Left Party received 11.7%, and the SPD 6.6% of the votes. The Greens and the FDP did not meet the 5% electoral threshold.
If the exit poll results are confirmed, it would be the first victory for the far-right in a state parliament since World War II, notes the BBC.
Results in Saxony
According to the exit poll results provided by ARD, the Christian Democrats won the Saxony state parliament election on Sunday. The forecast indicates that the CDU secured 31.9% of the votes, closely followed by the far-right AfD with 31.3%.
The head of the Saxony government, Michael Kretschmer (CDU), previously stated that these are the most important elections since the reunification of Germany, since they concern the life chances of everyone who wants to live in Saxony. The Saxony state parliament has 120 seats to be filled.
