"American Psycho" was initially released in cinemas in 2000. Christian Bale's portrayal of a disillusioned man who begins murdering people was undeniably stellar. The film has become iconic; its frames and individual scenes are recognisable even to those who haven't seen it. Despite being a massive red flag when considering favourite film characters, the main character, Patrick Bateman, has become a pop culture phenomenon and a timeless source of inspiration for Halloween costumes.
One might question whether a remake of "American Psycho" is necessary just over two decades later. The answer may be surprising: the film to be directed by Luca Guadagnino ("Call Me by Your Name", "Suspiria", "Bones and All", "Challengers") will not be a remake. The Italian director has announced that he intends to create an entirely new adaptation of the book by Bret Easton Ellis.
Who will play the new Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho"?
The film will be produced by Lionsgate, as was the 2000 version. However, little information remains about the upcoming production. "Luca is a brilliant artist and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP," said Adam Fogelson from Lionsgate.
Internet users are already speculating about who might be cast as the new Patrick Bateman. Many are betting on Jacob Elordi, currently one of the most popular actors among the younger generation.
"Okay, now all I need to see is Austin Butler, Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi, Tom Blyth, and Dylan O'Brien fighting to the death for this role," reads one of the online comments.
