Zelensky rejects US candidate's proposal to cede Ukrainian territories

- The idea that the world should end this war at Ukraine’s expense is unacceptable, - said Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with "The New Yorker". The President of Ukraine arrived in New York on Sunday, where he will participate in the UN General Assembly.

The idea of the candidate for the Vice President of the USA, JD Vance, is unacceptable - said Volodymyr Zelensky.

- His message (JD Vance's) seems to be that Ukraine must make a sacrifice. This brings us back to the question of the cost and who shoulders it. The idea that the world should end this war at Ukraine’s expense is unacceptable, - Interfax-Ukraine quoted a portion of Zelensky's interview for "The New Yorker".

Zelensky noted that he does not consider "this concept" to be a plan in any formal sense.

This would be an awful idea, if a person were actually going to carry it out, to make Ukraine shoulder the costs of stopping the war by giving up its territories. But there’s certainly no way this could ever happen, - Zelensky said.

He emphasised that such a scenario has no basis in international norms, the United Nations Charter, or in (rules of) justice.

Vice-presidential candidate wants a demilitarised zone

JD Vance, Donald Trump's candidate for Vice President, said on 12 September that the war in Ukraine could be ended by an agreement that would create a demilitarised zone along the "current line of demarcation" and provide Russia with guarantees of Kyiv's neutrality.

The President of Ukraine arrived in New York on Sunday. He will participate in the Future Summit, sessions of the UN General Assembly, and a series of bilateral meetings. On 26 September, Zelensky is scheduled to meet with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Russia aims to win the war against Ukraine before 2026, as it expects economic conditions to deteriorate and issues with recruiting soldiers - believe experts from the American Institute for the Study of War. The Kremlin drew these conclusions after a speech by Ukraine's head of military intelligence.
