Zelensky preps for US peace talks amid looming election tension
The Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky travelled to the USA five weeks before the country's presidential elections, preparing for possible peace negotiations with Russia.
After two and a half years of conflict with the Kremlin, Ukraine is reaching the limits of its capabilities, facing winter with severe restrictions on electricity supplies due to Russian strategic bombings, noted the newspaper.
As the newspaper emphasised, in addition to the growing losses, there is external pressure to start negotiations, during which Kyiv may be forced into "painful concessions". is also increasing.
Because of this, Zelensky decided to travel to the USA to "prepare for the worst," i.e., Donald Trump's presidential re-election. In the event of a victory by the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, Kyiv hopes for the quickest possible end to the war, predicted "El Pais".
The war, which has reached a deadlock on the battlefield, has reached the stage of maturity that is also the most dangerous. The future of Ukraine and Europe as a whole will be uncertain if its allies simply succumb to the blackmail of the aggressor, warned the Spanish newspaper.
Zelensky will not relinquish security and sovereignty
During his stay across the ocean, Zelensky participated in, among other things, the UN General Assembly session and met with the US presidential candidates. He also presented his "victory plan" in talks with the American authorities.
According to El Pais, the President of Ukraine is well aware of the specifics of negotiations, in which each side must make concessions, but he will not be able to relinquish his country's security and sovereignty.
