YouTube, as the most prominent video platform globally, faces challenges related to content credibility. In the age of rapid AI technology development, it is increasingly difficult to differentiate between genuine recordings and artificially generated ones. In response to this need, YouTube has introduced a new video labelling feature to enhance transparency.
YouTube - the most popular video platform
YouTube is the largest and most popular platform for sharing video content worldwide. Billions of users visit it monthly to watch, comment on, and create videos on various topics – from tutorials and vlogs to professional productions.
The popularity of YouTube is due to the ease of access to content and the wide range of materials tailored to different audiences. The platform has been committed to developing features that enhance user satisfaction and safety for years. Now, it's time for the next step – the fight for content authenticity, which aims to strengthen user trust in the published materials further.
Major changes on the platform. Goal? Authenticity
YouTube is introducing a new video labelling feature, "recorded with a camera," to increase content authenticity. The new system will allow users to recognise materials recorded using a real camera without any audio or video edits. This enables the platform to take another step in combating AI-generated content, which increasingly appears on YouTube and may mislead viewers.
This feature is based on the technological standard C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity), operating on the principle of a chain of evidence by adding metadata to the video to confirm its originality. Only materials recorded using appropriate devices and unedited qualify for this label, providing users with greater assurance about the credibility of the content they watch.
