After Joe Biden withdrew from running in the presidential elections, Democrats will most likely choose the current Vice President Kamala Harris. Many are wondering who will join her on the "ticket."
According to Bloomberg, three Democratic candidates for Vice President are being considered.
Who will join Harris on the "ticket"?
One of the names is Josh Shapiro, the Governor of Pennsylvania, considered a "swing state," meaning the number of Democrat and Republican voters is roughly equal, making it difficult to predict a winner in forecasts. Shapiro is considered a good speaker and does well in rural areas, where Democrats usually face challenges.
Another candidate is the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz. He is a former soldier and former teacher, also popular in smaller towns. Some believe he could tip the scales in favour of Democrats in Wisconsin and Michigan.
The third candidate for Vice President is the Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, a former pilot and astronaut. The media focuses on his approach to migration: he is a proponent of increasing security at the southern border crossings. He has also repeatedly criticised Joe Biden's policies in this area.
What all the candidates have in common is that they are white men with moderate views. Democrats believe they could help Harris gain support from voters in the "swing states."
Harris should choose the Vice President candidate by the 7th of August. In the middle of the month, the Democratic convention will take place, during which Harris may be formally chosen as the party’s candidate for the presidential election. If she receives the nomination, she will face the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump.
