The gasket, also known as the bellows, is a critical component of every washing machine. It traps water, collects dirt, and prevents leaks. Due to its design and the material it's made of, it serves as an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, leading to the growth of mildew and fungi.

What makes cleaning the gasket crucial?

If the gasket isn't cleaned regularly, it ends up accumulating excessive dirt, which can latch onto your laundry, causing clothes to become dirtier.

An unclean gasket is a haven for mould, which besides polluting the air, can result in an unpleasant odour in the bathroom. Regrettably, excessive dirt can also risk bellows damage, possibly leading to a washing machine leak. Keeping the gasket clean is vital for the proper and trouble-free functioning of the washing machine.

A simple method for cleaning the gasket. Less work, more results

If you're looking to thoroughly clean the inner part of the rubber in your washer, gather a roll of kitchen paper towel and some bleach. Remember to put on protective gloves before you begin. This way of cleaning the rubber will take you no more than two minutes, and the result will last much longer.

The proposed method for cleaning the gasket includes placing a piece of paper towel, dampened with bleach, within it. Fold the sheet at least once or twice— the number of folds depends on the thickness of the rubber. Use this dampened towel to line the entire area between the gaskets and leave it in place for several hours.

Once finished, remove the paper and dry the gasket thoroughly. The bleach will effectively cleanse the seal, sterilize the surface, and eliminate the harmful bacteria that encourage mould growth.
