Volkswagen's North America chief exits amid internal shakeup
Volkswagen is facing not only a growing crisis in the industry but also internal staff reshuffles. The president of the company's American division has resigned.
Pablo Di Si, president of the Volkswagen brand and the Volkswagen Group in North America, has resigned from his position of own accord and left the company immediately. The reasons for this decision are unknown. However, it is not known who will fill the vacancy.
Gerrit Spengler, currently overseeing human resources in Volkswagen's American division, will assume the interim leadership role. He will ultimately be replaced by Dr. Kjell Gruner, who will take over as president on 12 December 2024.
Kjell Gruner has previously been associated with the German company. He worked for Porsche and left in 2023 to join Rivian. He will now depart from the American brand and return to the parent company. Nonetheless, his path will still intersect with Rivian, as Volkswagen is steadily investing in the firm.
"We would like to thank Pablo Di Si, who, together with his local team, has made a lasting contribution to strengthening the American regions of our group," said Arno Antlitz, CFO and COO of the VW Group. "In Kjell Gruner, we have brought on board an experienced expert who knows the market and customers very well and will continue to consistently pursue the growth path we have embarked on," he added.
