Laundry accumulates very quickly, especially when there are children in the house. In such homes, the washing machine may be used daily. Unfortunately, the appliance consumes a lot of electricity and water, increasing energy bills. At a time when everyone is looking for ways to save money, it's worth trying a simple washing machine trick.
Before you start the wash, press one button
Modern washing machines have many useful functions, such as steam washing, anti-allergy, or eco-friendly ("eco"). The latter is often marked with a leaf symbol. In older models, it is located directly by the dial. Manufacturers included it in the appliance because this programme uses significantly less water and electricity while effectively removing all stains.

The "eco" mode lowers the temperature and extends the washing cycle. This changes the way the heating element operates. It is this part that consumes so much electricity. Studies show that this eco mode reduces energy consumption by 38% compared to regular modes and water by about 33%.
Which programme consumes the most electricity?
Towels, clothes, underwear, and children's clothing are just a few wardrobe items that should be washed at the highest possible temperature. Hot water removes dead skin cells and bacteria that could cause skin diseases.
Such programmes are effective but consume a lot of electricity. Experts recommend that other fabrics be washed at 30 - 40 degrees Celsius (30 - 40°C) and avoid programmes like "bedding," "wool," or "delicates." These are the ones that consume the most energy. If you want to ensure your laundry will be clean, add a pack of baking soda to the compartment and replace fabric softener with vinegar. Each of these products disinfects and helps maintain the colour of your clothes.
