Originally from England, Jay Slater flew to the Canary Islands with friends. On Monday, 16th June, at around 8:00 AM, the teenager last contacted his friends. He told a female friend that he was lost in a remote area, needed water, and had only one per cent of battery left on his phone.
The search for the 19-year-old has been ongoing for 12 days. So far, conspiracy theories abound, but little specific information has been determined. Jay's last known location was the mountainous Teno Rural Park in the northwestern part of the island.
According to Sky News, the police in Tenerife are appealing for assistance in the search. In addition to the services, volunteers can also join in the search. The entire operation will commence on Saturday, 29th June, at 9:00 AM in the village of Masca. This was likely where the teenager last made contact with his friends.
Considering that the area is steep, rocky, full of uneven ground, and with many ravines, paths, and roads, cooperation from all volunteers is required, informed the Guardia Civil, adding that the action should be carried out in a coordinated manner.
Volunteers wishing to join the search should call the Guardia Civil at 696434031 before 8:00 PM.
Search for the 19-year-old Briton
The missing 19-year-old's mother, Debbie Duncan, told the media that it was Jay's first holiday abroad with friends, and she had encouraged him to go. The teenager's loved ones - family and friends - are also participating in the search on the island. They remain hopeful that Jay will be found safe and sound.
Scent-tracking dogs, drones, helicopters, and dozens of rescue teams have been involved in the search effort. However, any help is invaluable.
