Keeping the sink clean can be challenging, especially when blockages occur. Clearing the drain can require time and significant effort. If the issue has been neglected, it may ultimately require the use of tools, harsh chemicals, or even calling a plumber. Therefore, it’s best to act promptly. You only need to combine a few items from the kitchen cupboard to quickly clear the drain.

To prevent blockages, it's advisable to regularly clean the sink and avoid disposing of larger food scraps, such as pits or coffee grounds, in it. This way, the sink won't get blocked, and unpleasant odours won't deter household members. However, if you notice that the drain allows less water, you should take action. A mixture with ingredients we have on hand will work best.

In a glass container, pour in 60 millilitres of dish soap, add a tablespoon of salt, and half a cup of vinegar. Pour a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda into the drain, followed by the mixture. Leave it overnight, and in the morning, rinse with hot water. It's beneficial to perform this treatment twice a month to keep the drain unblocked.

Homemade ways to unblock a sink

Homemade methods, such as using citric acid, are effective and environmentally friendly. Citric acid, due to its dissolving properties, quickly removes deposits and fats without damaging the pipes.

Another proven method is a mixture of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. The combination of these ingredients creates a chemical reaction that effectively dissolves blockages. Simply pour bicarbonate of soda into the drain, add vinegar, and after 30 minutes, rinse with hot water.

Homemade methods of unblocking a sink are not only effective but also eco-friendly. By avoiding aggressive chemicals, we maintain the pipes' cleanliness and household members' health. The sink will remain unblocked and clean thanks to simple tricks, like using citric acid or bicarbonate of soda.
