Let's remember. At the beginning of the year, NATO's security recommendations and the growing threat from Russia caused widespread concern. Heads of states began to more openly discuss the need for mandatory military service or training in case of war with Russia.
Tony Radakin assures Britons that they have nothing to fear.
Great Britain is safe; we are not on the brink of war with Russia, and no one is planning to reinstate the draft - Radakin reassured.
In the context of the security of NATO Eastern Flank countries, the British commander is also optimistic.
"The indisputable fact is that any Russian attack or intrusion into NATO territory would provoke an overwhelming response. The main reason Putin does not want conflict with NATO is that Russia would lose. And quickly," - said Radakin.
Troublesome situation
Tony Radakin also commented on the current situation at the front line. The military notes that "at a tactical level, Russians are acquiring small areas of territory."
According to Radakin, the West must take steps to support Ukraine as soon as possible, as the military will face ammunition shortages. This is tied to the blockade of military aid in the USA by Congress. He added that NATO allies are discussing how they can enhance support for Ukraine and suggested that decisions may be made during the summit in Washington.
Radakin believes that "the troublesome situation" for Ukraine will last for at least several more months. The British army commander suggests that Kyiv is unlikely to be able to launch a new counteroffensive before late summer and it will most probably happen next year.
