Russian-appointed mayor of Theodosia, Igor Tkachenko, stated on Thursday that over a thousand evacuees have been accommodated with relatives. Movement restrictions remain in place around the burning terminal, and roads and schools are closed.
Tkachenko added that cars and private buildings were damaged in the incident. A special commission is also working in the city to assess the damage.
Fourth day of the fire
The Russian fuel depot has been burning for four days. Thick, black smoke is rising over the city, but the authorities claim that there has been no air contamination.
Earlier, the mayor of Theodosia reported that fire brigades from across Russia had been brought in to extinguish the fire.
Attack on occupied Crimea
On Monday morning, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informed that Ukrainian forces had attacked the oil marine terminal in Theodosia. It is the largest terminal in Crimea in terms of oil product throughput, used, among other things, for the needs of the Russian army. Ukrainian drones already attacked this base in March.
