The authorities in Crimea have reported that over 1,000 people have had to be evacuated due to a fire at the oil terminal in Feodosia on the occupied peninsula. Russian media report that more tanks exploded last night and in the evening.

On Tuesday, Igor Tkachenko, the Russia-appointed mayor of Feodosia, announced the evacuation of over a thousand people due to the fire at the oil terminal in the Ukrainian Crimea annexed by Russia. “Firefighting operations are ongoing,” he added.

More than a thousand evacuated

Just over 1,000 local residents have been transported to temporary accommodation. According to official information, no one was injured as a result of the fire.

The terminal's fire broke out from Sunday to Monday. The Novaya Gazeta. Europe portal reports that residents had heard an explosion earlier. The Russian Ministry of Defence reported the destruction of Ukrainian drones over the peninsula.

Largest terminal in Crimea attacked

On Monday morning, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian forces attacked the oil terminal in Feodosia.

This is the largest terminal in Crimea in terms of oil product transshipment, used, among other entities, by the Russian army. This facility was already targeted by Ukrainian drones in March.

Analysis of satellite images shows that the facility was protected by the Pantsir-S1 air defence system.
