Ukrainian link suspected in general Kirillov's murder

Russian services have detained a suspect in the murder of General Igor Kirillov. The 29-year-old from Uzbekistan is reported to have acted on behalf of the Ukrainian Security Services.

Russian security services have reported the detention of a 29-year-old Uzbek citizen in connection with the murder of General Igor Kirillov and his assistant in Moscow.

A "Kommersant" source stated that the suspects' trail was identified at the crime scene, where monitoring cameras recorded several suspicious cars.

The murder of Kirillov

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) Defence Forces, was killed on Tuesday morning when a remotely detonated device hidden in a scooter exploded outside a residential building.

According to Russian security services, the suspect was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence. A Ukrainian source confirmed in a conversation with the BBC that the murder was organised by Ukrainian security services.
