Collaboration between the aforementioned brands is not unprecedented. Under agreements signed in recent months, the parties have committed to jointly developing electromobility and software. However, a more formal alliance cannot be ruled out.
Nissan is indeed facing significant challenges. This year, the company has reduced production, announced layoffs, and requested that dealers sell cars at a loss. According to information from the "Financial Times," two anonymous directors have disclosed that Nissan may have only 12 to 14 months left to survive.
Recently, the company appointed former Jeep CEO Christian Meunier as the chairman of Nissan America. According to "Nikkei Asia," the next step could involve restructuring and forming an alliance with Honda.
To date, neither party has provided an official confirmation of these reports, only mentioning that they are considering different opportunities for future collaboration to build on their respective strengths. Nonetheless, the extensive media attention suggests there may be some truth to these claims.
