Russia imposes travel ban on Japan's foreign minister Iwaya
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a travel ban for Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya. This is Moscow's retaliatory move in response to Tokyo's sanctions related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The ban also applies to a group of eight other Japanese officials, as stated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Consequences for relations
Among those affected by the ban are the current and former Japanese ambassadors to Ukraine. Russia had previously imposed indefinite travel bans on Japanese officials and entrepreneurs. These actions are part of Moscow's broader strategy in response to international sanctions.
Russia's decision contributes to the further deterioration of relations between Moscow and Tokyo.
