Ukrainian forces surprise Russian troops in the Kursk offensive

The Ukrainian army has launched an offensive in several areas along the front in the Kursk region of Russia. According to Ukrainian media, Russian units were completely taken by surprise by Ukrainian actions.

This information was reported by Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council. According to him, the Ukrainian armed forces "are currently working on developing the offensive."

Russia surprised

"In the Kursk region, Russians are deeply worried as they were attacked in several directions, which came as a surprise to them. The Defense Forces are at work," conveyed Kovalenko on Telegram.

The head of the President's Office, Andrii Yermak, also announced the start of the offensive. "Kursk region. Good news, Russia is getting what it deserves," he said.

Zelensky on Kursk

Russian and North Korean forces suffered heavy losses in battles taking place on Friday and Saturday in the Kursk region, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

- In the battles yesterday and today near just one village, Makhnivka, the Russian army lost up to a battalion of North Korean infantry soldiers and Russian paratroopers (...). This is significant, Zelensky said in his evening video address.

Zelensky did not provide any additional details. The Reuters agency noted that a battalion can vary in size, but it typically consists of several hundred soldiers.
