Ukrainian forces established military command in the occupied Kursk region

The Ukrainian army has established its own military command in the portion of the Kursk region in Russia that it has occupied, Ukraine's armed forces' commander-in-chief, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, said on Thursday. General Eduard Moskalov will head the body.

—To maintain law and order and ensure the urgent needs of the population in the controlled territories, a military commandant's office was created. Major General Moskalev was appointed as its head — Syrskyi said during a meeting of the state's highest leadership chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The administration will be located in Sudzha, currently occupied by Ukrainian forces.

The commander-in-chief reported that since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian forces have advanced up to 1.6 kilometres into the Kursk region and currently control 1,150 square kilometres of Russian territory.

Major General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Eduard Moskalov once headed the Military Academy in Odesa and Donetsk.

— (Ukrainian forces have advanced) from 1 to 2 kilometres in different areas from the beginning of the day. And more than 100 Russian soldiers have been captured during the same period — Syrskyi assured.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine began the offensive operation in the Kursk region on Russian territory on 6 August. Foreign armies have not occupied the territories of present-day Russia since World War II.
