Ukrainian drones strike Kazan: Fire, airport closure reported
The Russian city of Kazan has experienced another attack by Ukrainian drones. It is known that there is a fire at the aviation university and aircraft factories. Due to the attack, the airport in Kazan has been temporarily closed.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported a threat of drone attacks in Tatarstan. In several districts of the city, residents reported hearing explosions.
As a result, the Federal Air Transport Agency announced the closure of the city airport.
"To ensure the safety of civilian aircraft flights, temporary restrictions were introduced this morning on the operation of Kazan Airport. The air harbor is temporarily not accepting or dispatching flights," stated a department representative.
Local Telegram channels report that a fire broke out on the premises of the aviation university and aircraft factories. The presumed targets of the drones in Kazan were the aircraft factories and helicopters.
Kazan in the crosshairs of Ukrainians
This is another recent attack on the city. At the end of December, at least six drones struck buildings in Kazan, most of them hitting multi-storey residential buildings.
Kazan is home to a powder factory, crucial for the production of Iskander and Kalibr missiles, which have been used against Ukraine. To protect it, the Russian military attempted to neutralise the drones over residential buildings, which resulted in them crashing into skyscrapers.
At that time, Russian leader Vladimir Putin threatened Ukraine with "great destruction" following the attack. "Whoever, and however much they try to destroy, they will face many times more destruction themselves and will regret what they are trying to do in our country," Putin warned.
