The President of Mexico noted that the documents signed by Donald Trump on his first day in office resemble actions taken during his first term, and she called for maintaining "a cool head."

The day after Donald Trump's inauguration as President, Claudia Sheinbaum assured a press conference that her government would act humanely on immigration issues. At the same time, she announced that migrants from abroad would be deported to their countries. According to her, Mexican authorities will discuss with the U.S. who should pay for the deportation of immigrants not originating from Mexico.

The President of Mexico also addressed Donald Trump's decision, who signed a proclamation declaring a state of emergency at the southern border and recognised drug cartels as terrorist organisations. Sheinbaum noted that Mexico wants to cooperate with the U.S. in fighting cartels and stopping the flow of weapons from the U.S.

Sheinbaum hoped to avoid confrontation with the U.S. and anticipate diplomatic talks between the countries. She also criticised Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, emphasising the need for global cooperation in combating climate change.

The President announced the defence of Mexicans living in the USA in light of Donald Trump's plans for mass deportations. She stressed that consulates are prepared to provide legal support to Mexican citizens.
