Ukrainian drones attacked a federal fuel depot belonging to the Federal Agency for State Reserves of Russia (Rosrezerv) in the middle of the night. Following the attack, the "Atlas" refinery in the Kamensky district of the Rostov region is ablaze. "It was a crazy explosion," said the residents.
The explosion occurred at around 1 a.m. GMT. Residents heard a swoosh followed by several explosions. "It was a crazy explosion," says one of them in a recording.
Rosrezerv "Atlas" refinery is burning
According to the Russian Ministry of National Defence, four drones were shot down over the Rostov region. Governor Vasily Golubev added that no one was killed or injured. However, he emphasised that "this information is being verified."
Ukrainian drones attacked the Rosrezerv "Atlas" refinery. Independent Russian journalists reported that these plants supplied petroleum products to the Russian army earlier.
Another fire in the region
"In August 2020, joint exercises of the Ministry of National Defence and Rosrezerv were held at the plant as part of the Caucasus-2020 exercises. During the demonstration exercises of supplying petroleum products for the army's needs, three methods were tested – by road, rail, and pipeline" – established Astra.
"It's 'Atlas' burning again. I'm afraid to sleep," says a resident.
The last attack on the "Atlas" plant was carried out at the beginning of August. At that time, the fire was not as extensive as now.
This is the second Rosrezerv refinery burning in the Rostov region. Firefighters are still fighting the fire at the Protelarsk refinery.
