Ukraine endures 15‑hour air raid alert amidst Russian strikes
Early on Tuesday morning across Ukraine, air raid sirens echoed. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of cruise missiles by Russian TU-95 bombers, and air defence systems in all regions of Ukraine were on high alert.
In response to Russia's attack on Ukraine, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces announced that "due to the activity of long-range aviation from the Russian Federation targeting sites in western Ukraine, military aviation has been deployed in Polish airspace," reads the morning communiqué.
Close to 15 hours of air raid alerts
Throughout the night, Russian drones also attacked Ukraine. The alert in the Kyiv region lasted over 10 hours, in Chernihiv over 11 hours, in Poltava over 12 hours, and in Sumy over 14 and a half hours. The alert in the capital, Kyiv, lasted 3 and a half hours.
At 5:36 AM Greenwich Mean Time, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that the alert had ended outside the Sumy, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions - Russian drone attacks still threaten these.
