In a new poll before the elections in the USA, published by CNN, Donald Trump is leading against Kamala Harris. Previously, a poll published by Reuters showed Harris in the lead.

The poll for CNN was conducted by the research firm SSRS. This is the first study for the station after Joe Biden announced that he would not seek re-election. The poll included the most likely Democratic Party candidate, Kamala Harris.

In the poll conducted on 22-23 July, Donald Trump is leading. 49% of respondents expressed their willingness to vote for the former US president and Republican candidate. Kamala Harris enjoys slightly lower support and can count on 46% of the votes.

This is a small difference that falls within the margin of error. At the same time, however, this is the first survey after Biden’s resignation where Donald Trump is the leader.

According to the latest poll by Reuters and the Ipsos research centre, Kamala Harris is the leader in the race for the US presidential seat. The current vice president of the United States received 44% of the respondents' votes. Donald Trump got 42% of the votes.

Harris is chasing Trump. Closing Biden's gap

According to CNN journalists, the poll, although better for Trump, is also good news for Kamala Harris. The current vice president's deficit to Donald Trump is smaller than Joe Biden’s previous gap.

In the poll for CNN from June 2024, Donald Trump could count on 49% support. Meanwhile, the incumbent president received 43% trust from the respondents. The effect of the new Democratic candidate has already reduced the deficit by three percentage points.

Interestingly, Kamala Harris maintained 95% of the support that Joe Biden previously achieved. This is more than Donald Trump (the former US president maintained 92% of the votes). More than half of her supporters are also satisfied with the change of the Democratic candidate.

The US presidential elections will be held on 5 November 2024.
