Trump claims Harris easy to beat, despite past donations

Donald Trump claims that defeating Kamala Harris would be significantly easier than Joe Biden. However, commentators remind us that Trump financially supported Harris's campaign twice years ago when she was running for California Attorney General.

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would not seek re-election and expressed his support for Kamala Harris's candidacy. "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year," he wrote on platform X.

In response to Biden's decision, his opponent, Donald Trump, stated that defeating Kamala Harris would be much easier.

However, on this occasion, commentators on social media recall a matter that came to light in 2020. It concerned Trump's support for Harris's election campaign.

"Donald Trump donated to Kamala Harris twice while she was a candidate for California attorney general, according to public records available on the California secretary of state's website," reported Business Insider.

Donald Trump donated a total of £4,700 to Kamala Harris. Official data shows that this comprised £3,900 in 2011 and £780 in 2013. Both donations were made in a personal capacity. Harris's campaign was also supported by his daughter Ivanka Trump, who donated £1,560 to her in 2014.

Donald Trump first ran for president in 2015. Kamala Harris served as California Attorney General from 2011 to 2017 and then won a Senate seat. Trump's donations to her came to light before the 2020 elections when Kamala Harris was announced as the vice-presidential candidate.

After the issue came to light, a spokeswoman for Kamala Harris stated that Donald Trump's money donated to her campaign was given in 2015 to a non-profit organisation advocating for the rights of Central American residents.
