A popular tourist attraction in Norway has been closed until the end of the year. It is one of the most picturesque places in this part of Europe. However, the reason for the closure is essential: it concerns the safety of visitors.

Norway is, above all, a land of beautiful, wild nature, which is scarce in many places around the world. The fjords, mountain slopes, and the Lofoten Islands will enchant anyone. One of the most popular attractions in this country is Trollstigen, also known as the Troll Road, famous for its series of steep, narrow hairpin bends.
A decision has been made
The authorities have decided to close the picturesque Troll Road, leading to Åndalsnes, until the end of 2024. "Driving, cycling, and hiking in the closed area are prohibited," reads a statement published on the Visit Norway website.
The local authorities justified their decision by ensuring the safety of tourists. The route is at high risk of rockfalls and landslides. In June this year alone, at least 10 cases of rock fragments breaking off were recorded in this location. "We simply have to halt traffic before someone is seriously injured or killed," admitted Ole Jan Tønnesen, regional road director.
During the closure of the attraction, a thorough analysis will be conducted on how to improve the safety of the road. In addition, necessary work must be carried out.
A terrace with a stunning view
Furthermore, another essential news for tourists has been communicated, which is much better this time. Despite the closure of the famous Troll Road, the viewing platform from which a fairy-tale panorama of the entire valley unfolds remains open to tourists. The terrace can be reached via the road from Geiranger and Valldal.
