Transforming family dinners. The Rise of pork ribs in UK households
Pork ribs might not be the first meat choice when preparing a family dinner in the UK. Perhaps it's time for a change? The recipe we're about to share will revolutionise your family’s stance on ribs. Trust us, they'll love it!
Ribs are often seen on restaurant menus, at barbecues, or even as the essential ingredient in deliciously aromatic soups. Yet, making them the star of a home-cooked dinner isn't all that common. The reason? It's hard to tell—maybe we Brits have a massive fondness for ground pork chops and schnitzels.
However, this doesn't mean ribs can't become a family dinner favourite. Our advice? Give them a chance and watch as your household's view of them transforms. The way to go is to serve the ribs stewed in a rich onion sauce. Just the thought of this dish has us drooling. We have a hunch you'll feel the same. Good luck!
Ribs for Dinner
Ingredients:
- about 4.9 pounds of pork ribs,
- 2 onions,
- 2 cloves of garlic,
- salt, pepper,
- sweet paprika,
- rib seasoning,
- flour,
- about 4 ounces of cream (18% fat),
- 2 bay leaves,
- a few grains of pepper,
- a few grains of allspice.
How to prepare:
- Rinse the ribs in cold water. Then dry them with salt, pepper, rib seasoning, and sweet paprika. Cut the onions into thin slices, chop the garlic.
- Now, sear the ribs in hot oil. Add the onions and garlic, and after 2-3 minutes, transfer the ingredients to a pot. Pour water over the meat, add spices: bay leaves, pepper, and allspice, and cover the pot with a lid.
- After stewing the ribs for about 50-60 minutes, add flour mixed with cream to them. Heat until the sauce noticeably thickens. Taste and, if necessary, add more spices. Serve with your favourite starchy side and a salad. Enjoy!
