On Saturday, a tragic event occurred in northern France, resulting in the loss of five lives. According to AFP, the shooting took place in two communes near Dunkirk: Wormhout and Loon-Plage.
Suspect surrenders to the police
The police reported that a young man surrendered at the station and confessed to the crime.
On Saturday afternoon, he shot a man near Herzeele and Wormhout, then got into a car and drove to the industrial area in Loon-Plage, where he killed two Kurdish refugees.
The next victims were two security guards monitoring the industrial complex, who died at the scene when the perpetrator opened fire on them.
Local authority reactions
The local newspaper "La Voix du Nord" reported that the prosecution is conducting an investigation to determine the motives and circumstances of the incident.
The mayors of Loon-Plage and Wormhout expressed shock over Saturday's events. "I can't understand how this happened," said the mayor of Wormhout, David Calcoen, quoted by "La Voix du Nord".
The investigation is ongoing, and the prosecution has not disclosed additional information regarding the perpetrator's motives.
