Tragedy strikes: Zambian football team loses seven in bus crash

Seven players from the third-tier team, Chavuma Town Council FC from Zambia, were killed in a bus accident that occurred on Saturday. The team was travelling for a league match in the north-western part of the country. Twelve people were injured, including five who were taken to hospital.

The tragedy happened on Saturday when the bus driver, transporting nineteen Chavuma Town Council FC team members, lost control of the vehicle, leading to a rollover incident.

The players were en route to a third-tier match.

Seven people died in the accident, and twelve were injured. Five injured were taken to hospital, while the others received assistance at the scene. The condition of several individuals is critical.

The world of football and the Zambian community in mourning

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) expressed deep sorrow following this tragic event.

"We are in contact with football, civil, and law enforcement authorities in the province to learn all the details of the accident," said FAZ President Andrew Kamanga.

The football community in Zambia declared a period of mourning "for the loss of young talents." Sports and local authorities are also supporting the victims' families. Club representatives met with those who lost loved ones.

Condolences were also expressed by the President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe.
