The main character has previously appeared in Marvel comics. Now, using these as inspiration, a new series is in development for Disney+, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II ("Aquaman" duology, "The Matrix Resurrections"), Ben Kingsley ("Iron Man 3"), and Lauren Glazier ("Mindhunter"). The series follows Hollywood actor Simon Williams, who obtains extraordinary powers and enters the superhero world as Wonder Man. Regrettably, a severe tragedy has recently halted production on the set.

Set tragedy for "Wonder Man": what occurred?

As reported by "The Hollywood Reporter" on Tuesday, February 6, a hazardous incident took place at Radford Studios. Despite it not being a shooting day, there were several people onsite carrying out preparatory work for future filming.

Tragically, one of the crew members working on the rafters fell from a significant height. His injuries were so severe that they sadly resulted in his death.

The California Department of Safety and Health has initiated an investigation into the accident's causes to identify and mitigate any potential health or life hazards.

A Marvel representative issued a statement saying: "Our hearts and deepest sympathies are with his loved ones, and we back the investigation into this accident's circumstances," as read in their brief note.

When will "Wonder Man" premiere?

The series is under the control of Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), who serves as producer and will likely also direct episodes, and Andrew Guest (screenwriter for "Community" and "30 Rockefeller Plaza") who oversees the plot.

Like many other projects, this one has been delayed due to actor and scriptwriter strikes that continued for several months last year. At present, the release date on Disney+ is unknown. However, there is still a possibility it will debut this year.
