Tragedy at Odessa. Ukrainian policewoman missing after wave pulls her from the pier
A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the pier in Odessa. According to Ukrainian media, while taking souvenir photos, a strong wave first knocked down and then pulled underwater a 20-year-old policewoman. Rescue services immediately began a search operation, but the woman was still not found.
Although the war has been ongoing in Ukraine for two years, in many cities, life has returned to normal as much as possible. It is no different in Odessa, which, before the war, was a critical vacation destination for millions of Ukrainians from all over the country.
Currently, the southern city is once again popular. Access to the Black Sea provides an excellent place to spend holidays or free time, something weary Ukrainians eagerly take advantage of.
Unfortunately, there are moments when it can become a deadly trap, as experienced by the 20-year-old policewoman from Rivne. While on vacation, she took a photo on the Odessa pier during a squall at sea.
Police conduct intensive searches for the woman in the pier area
Two strong waves hit her when the 20-year-old stood at the pier's edge. The first wave knocked her to the ground, while the second pulled her underwater. From that moment, there was no sign of the policewoman.
The Ukrainian police immediately took over the case, with divers from the State Emergency Service assisting, according to a statement. Unfortunately, despite several hours having passed, the woman’s body has still not been found.
The 20-year-old policewoman from Rivne is now presumed dead. Unfortunately, the turbulent and very rough sea made her rescue nearly impossible. A short video online shows that she was thrown several metres from the pier within just a few seconds.
