The world's longest straight road title claimed by Saudi Arabia
Perfectly long straights are mostly associated with the United States or Australia. However, the record-breaking road is not located in either of those countries. Surprised?
The longest straight stretch of road in the world is in Saudi Arabia, specifically on Highway 10, connecting Ad Darb near the Red Sea with Al Batha near the Persian Gulf.
The whole route is about 1,474km long, but the perfectly straight stretch is "only" about 240km long. Enough to deserve the title of the longest straight in the world and an entry into the Guinness World Records.
It is worth noting that the record-breaking segment is not only devoid of curves but also major elevations. There is quite a bit of traffic there, mainly trucks. Sand is also a significant hazard, often accumulating in larger quantities on the surface.
A few years ago, the straight in Saudi Arabia took the prestigious title from the well-known Eyre Highway in Australia, whose 140km straight was long considered the longest straight segment in the world.
