Cans of food are a staple in our kitchens. From fish and vegetables to fruits, knowing that you can reach for them at any moment is a huge convenience for many of us. Stored in basements or cupboards, they are ready to serve a quick meal or side dish.

What makes canned products so popular? Their price and durability. They are indispensable when we need to quickly prepare something for dinner. Their long shelf lives are another advantage that attracts customers to the canned goods shelves. Simply store an opened can in the fridge, and its contents will remain fresh for a long time. Sometimes, we don't use the entire contents of a can while preparing a meal. Improper opening can lead to the food drying out or spoiling. How do you open cans correctly? Use this trick.

The most common mistake when opening cans

Although opening cans is so commonplace, few of us do it correctly. Popping the lid often leads to difficulties in resealing the can, which shortens its shelf life. Improper opening can also lead to spills.

How should you open a can? The proper technique can significantly ease this task, as one user noticed. Instead of immediately popping off the entire lid, detach it halfway. Then, when you want to close the can, rotate the tab 180 degrees and tuck it under the rim of the can. This allows for easier resealing after using part of the contents. Moreover, it helps avoid unnecessary mess and splattering, like sauce, during opening.

How to use empty cans?

Often, after using the contents of a can, we throw it away. However, they can be used for many creative applications! Painted cans make excellent organisers for the desk or herb pots that can be placed in the kitchen.
