The Police were alerted early Tuesday morning, just before 7 am GMT, following reports of a car crashing into a house in Thurlow Gardens, Hainault, in East London.
At the scene, it was discovered that a man armed with a sword had attacked bystanders. The attacks led to the death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin and serious injuries to four individuals, two of whom are police officers.
The suspect was apprehended 22 minutes post the initial emergency call to the police. Subsequently, he was hospitalized to treat injuries incurred when his vehicle collided with the house.
Charges have been brought against the accused
The accused, identified as Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a 36-year-old dual citizen of Spain and Brazil residing in Newham, East London, faces multiple charges.
By Wednesday, he was charged with the murder of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, attempted murder of two people, grievous bodily harm to two others, and possession of a dangerous weapon—the sword used in the attack.
"I know that many people will want answers and we are working to provide them as soon as we can. I would also echo previous calls for patience as my officers carry out a painstaking investigation to deliver justice for Daniel, his family, those injured and the wider community," explained Chief Superintendent Larry Smith from the London Police.
He further highlighted that officers are just beginning to piece together the events of Tuesday's tragedy and extended thanks to those sharing footage from dashcams and mobile phones with the police.
Monzo is set to face court proceedings in Barkingside on Thursday.
