Symptoms you shouldn't ignore: Signals of hidden cancers
Advancements in medicine are enabling increasingly effective cancer treatments. However, early detection of the disease remains crucial. If we notice something concerning in our bodies, it's worthwhile to consult a doctor. Here are examples of symptoms that should be treated with great attention. In such cases, visiting a clinic is necessary.

Changes to the skin and on the mucous membranes of the lips, as well as problems with swallowing, are signals that should raise our vigilance, especially if they persist for more than two weeks. They may indicate inflammation or vitamin deficiency, but they might just as well signal oral cancer. Gastrointestinal issues may also appear.
Are you losing weight rapidly? This should be concerning
Rapid weight loss (over 10 per cent of body weight in a short period) is another alarming symptom, especially if we are not on any diet. This could be a sign of liver cancer. Therefore, it's worth systematically checking our body weight.
Swelling of lymph nodes may result from a bacterial infection, but it might also mean lymphoma. Further tests are necessary if the swelling does not disappear within three weeks. They will help to rule out or, unfortunately, confirm a potential condition.
long-lasting, unexplained pains are a significant problem
Unexplained abdomen, lower back, chest, or head pains may indicate a tumour's development. Pains in the lower back might suggest kidney cancer; in the chest – lung cancer; and in the lower abdomen – colorectal cancer. Recurring, intense headaches with nausea and vomiting may be a sign of a brain tumour. Regularly occurring pains must, therefore, form the basis for appropriate diagnostics.
A troublesome and persistent cough that does not subside after a month should also raise our concerns as a possible symptom of lung cancer. There is yet another particularly dangerous symptom. Spitting blood is also a dangerous signal, which may indicate lung cancer. The appearance of this symptom requires immediate diagnostics in the form of an X-ray and bronchoscopy.
Changes within the genital organs should also not be ignored. A palpable lump in a woman’s breast may indicate developing breast cancer and should be examined by a doctor. Similarly, changes around the nipple may indicate breast cancer. Women, especially those in their prime, should regularly perform self-breast examinations.
Changes in the shape, size, or consistency of a man's testicle may also suggest cancer. In such a case, consultation with a doctor and appropriate tests are necessary. Visiting a urologist, although embarrassing for many, may save a man's life.
The appearance of cancer may also be associated with a sudden drop in physical performance and fitness. It often indicates an already advanced stage of the disease's development.
