Increasing heating bills and the frequent need to supplement home heating require a creative approach to the issue. Is there a way to improve thermal comfort at home without spending a fortune? Absolutely! One simple trick is to use an emergency blanket, which can easily be purchased at a pharmacy for a few pounds.
A pharmacy product can help lower bills
A thermal blanket (also known as an NRC foil) is an essential tool in medical emergencies, where it is used to warm up the injured. However, this product can also be useful at home as an insulation layer.
An emergency blanket has two sides - gold and silver. The gold surface absorbs heat, while the silver side retains it. Using NRC foil is an effective way to prevent heat loss and keep it inside the room. How to do it?
Simply choose the appropriate size of the foil (it can be cut with scissors), spray the window glass with water, and stick the thermal blanket onto it - with the gold side facing outwards and the silver side facing inside the room. The foil will retain the heat generated by heating inside, reducing energy consumption. As a result, our bills will decrease, and the temperature will stay at the desired level.
Method with foil behind the radiator
Another idea to reduce heating bills is to stick aluminium foil on the wall behind the radiator. This simple solution allows you to recover the heat that usually escapes through the walls. Just wrap the shiny side of the foil around a piece of cardboard and place it behind the radiator.
The shiny surface of the foil will reflect heat from the radiator, which will help increase the room temperature. If you don't have cardboard, you can attach the foil directly to the back of the radiator, e.g., with masking tape.
To maintain the optimal reading on the thermometer, remember not to hang wet clothes on the radiator, which will absorb heat. Always ensure that radiators are exposed and can perform their function without obstruction - this is crucial for maintaining the proper temperature in the home.
